Not the worst I've drawn. Just okay. Perhaps the best canine I have drawn considering I stopped drawing for about 5 years. So yes, big improvement from past attempts to draw one. I learned a few neat photoshop tricks in the process. This character reference was inspired by this contest.

Name: Aderyn (meaning Bird) Her favorite creature as a pup, and her mother's as well.
Breed: Vildmarkens Terrier x Royale = A wirehaired bull terrier with slightly longer legs than a purebred bull terrier. Color: Blue Merle piebald with tan points and ticking on the legs. About 50% white. Merle patch over right eye and Tan patch over left eye. Right eye blue. Left eye brown.
Age: 32
Gender: Female
Mate: None/ deceased (murdered by her daughter in beast form)
Father: Unknown - Breed: Royale (He ran off just after Aira became a beast and attacked her pack. It is thought he helped found the Meteor tribe, but it is unknown.
Mother: Unknown - Breed: Vildmarkens Terrier (She was captured by the humans on Earth last Aderyn knew, but there is a possibility that Father freed her and brought her to Aedra later.
Sibblings: Unknown
Offspring: daughter (deceased - murdered by her mother to protect her mother's pack when she had turned into a beast)

Bio:
Aderyn is one of the oldest dogs on Aedra. As a pup she remembers Earth, being taken away by a glowing blue triangular spaceship. dropped with her father in a pack of unknown dogs, and growing up in Aedra. She's seen both the corruption and devastation resulting in contacting Evil spirits in Aedra. She wants no part of it, or have anything to do with the gods. To her they are all bad. Not only must she avoid contacting the gods, but she must ensure every member of her pack avoids contacting the gods as well. If one member so utters a word of prayer, or anything that could be interpreted as a prayer, the punishment is harsh. She does this not to be a heartless mean bitch, but because she cares. She's lost her family; her mother, father and daughter), and it would break her even more to lose another. To her packmates, though, Aderyn is a mean bitch. And that is what they call her when she is away.
They put up with her leadership because so far she has kept them safe from the beasts for several years.
She's also the one who learned how to protect the pack from nightbeasts when fire can't be lit. She taught her pack how to crush the glowing part of Aedra "Fireflies" and make them into glowing tribal paint. Sticky and waterproof, the glow lasts for a few hours before fading. It can be recharged by firelight. This paint is handy when it is raining or if the brush in the forest is too dense for a torch to be safely held. They also capture fireflies and keep them in containers around their camp.
Flaws:
Closed minded - What she believes is true is enough for her. Try to convince her otherwise and risk punishment
Stubborn - Good luck trying to win an argument with Aderyn. I mean it.
Quick temper - she has no patience for disobedient packmates/ tribe members. Lazy? You better get on your butt and get to work. Or else.
Despite these flaws and her pack's resentment, they are aware if anyone were to be hurt or in danger, Aderyn would be the one to risk her life to save them. It doesn't matter how dangerous. There have been times she almost got slaughtered by night beasts, even knocked unconscious, but to her the risk is worth it if she can save another life.
Suggested goal for character: Try to break through the hard bitter walls she's built around herself to get to the soft sensitive core she truly is. There is hope for her to become less bitter, less harsh, less strict, but that hope fades with every new tragedy and every new day. Help restore her faith in good.
Tribe: Unknown what they are called, but she considers her packmates as part of a tribe. Smaller than the Meteor Tribe (what she last remembers of them anyway (think pre Kargo escape time), but still considerable sized. Most of her tribe consists of Vildmarkens Terriers and a breed that looks like American Bulldogs.
Anatomy:
Scars: Several - many inflicted upon her by her daughter when she became a beast. Huge claw marks on left side. Two claw marks below her left eye. Claw marks on her left hip. Scratches on her right hip. Teeth and claw marks on her neck. Claw marks on the top of her muzzle. Various little scars all over her body, both from defending her pack against beasts, native beasts, night beasts, as well as risking her life to hunt and find food during seasons when weather was harsh and resources were hard to find.
Height:
50 cm (She's short but so are many in her tribe.)
Coat: Short, stiff, wiry
Body: lean, muscular, thickly built
Tail: straight, carries level to back when active, straight down when resting. Slight feathering. White. Tan on bottom. Two Merle spots on top.
Ears: Prick, Royale like - tears/ bite marks on left ear, right ear has a hole torn about half way. Flops because of damage.
Muzzle: Bull terrier like, large convex, strong
Chest: Bull terrier like
Tuck-up: level to chest. Bull terrier like.
Special items: She wears a chain necklace with two feathers. The two feathers symbolize her mother and her daughter. There used to be three feathers, but the feather that symbolized her self has long since broken off. (in a way symbolic of how she lives now. Denying her own self so long she's forgotten who she really is and lives as the hard empty shell she's made of herself.)
- Knife, she keeps one tied to her right leg at all times. Who knows when she might need it for defense?
